Popovers

My new love since last winter has been popover. Not the food, but 1/2 button down pullover shirt. I first discovered them at J.Crew and that what they call these pullovers.

They are perfect for spring and summer with skinny jeans, leggings or shorts. Also, you could wear statement necklace to dress it up or layer it with cardigan or sweater for colder weather.
Here are some outfits that I would wear with popovers:

1. Casual shopping/errands day:
2. Date night:
3. Office attire:

Recently Target have a line of popovers that are perfect for this summer. Check them out!

I had a bad day...

This morning I went to USPS to fetch my missing mail that my parents sent me. The lady at the office was so rude and nearly yelling at me when I gave her a wrong tracking number. People behind me felt so furious about her words and tried to calm me down. Then I went to Lucky's Market to do some grocery shopping and a random old lady just glared at me with no reason. Later when I was at checkout I tried to talk to the cashier, and he just freaking didn't care!

I know sometimes people are just having a bad time themselves, but when you are working at services, you are supposed to suppress your personal emotions and try not to burst it out on innocent customers.

I have been trying so hard not to let it out when I encountered these bad services because I don't want to punish myself or even more people due to someone's fault.

A lot of people complain that nowadays our society are getting so mean that people are not nice and grateful anymore. Being in a school setting, I seldom ran into situations at which you hold the door for someone but he/she never says thank you. I was so spoiled by a nice academic environment and never noticed that there are a lot of mean people. I am nice to almost everyone and this is not right. When you are offended by someone, you are supposed to stand up for yourself and let people know what've happened. However, I still have this dream that everyone could be nice and considerate when something comes up.

Be strong and be nice.

C.P.A.

Mid-May, two weeks from graduation, two weeks from going home, and the day when I officially submitted my CPA exam application!!

I am nervous yet excited about the journey ahead, a journey to a more matured and educated self.

I know that there are going to be a lot of challenges along the way and I have to be diligent and persistent.

All being said, I just want to enjoy life and everything accompanying it. Hope all the best to you who are going through same or similar life changes!

Show Your Stripes

When I was younger, fashion magazines taught me not to wear stripes if you don't want to embarrass yourself by stretching them into zebra prints. Over these years, I started to realize that stripes can make you look more fit once you wear them right! Zebra prints are not that embarrassing anyways:)

Family and friends who know my style very well notice that half of my closet are filled with colorful stripes. My favorite color combinations are: navy blue + red, navy blue + military green, blue + white.

Carefully styled, stripes can make you look chic yet elegant.

One of my favorite places to buy striped shirts is Uniqlo--a Japanese brand that carries casual and natural styles. Hope they have more chains across the country!!

My favorite ways to style striped items are:

1. Striped shirt + solid color bottoms (pants, shorts, skirts)

2. Striped dress + solid color cardigan/jacket

3. Striped skirt (trending piece for 2014)

Hope you could find some inspirations from your closet:)

Dress for Work

I am doing summer internship at my undergrad college and it is just so hard to play with summer work outfit. The air-conditioners in the office blow extremely strong and I cannot just wear cute sleeveless top and sit through the day.

Cardigan is female professionals' best friend!!

Personally, I prefer dark color tones such as navy blue, black, grey and stripes since most of my dresses or tops are in bold colors. H&M, Forever21, J.Crew Factory, Tommy Hilfiger have been my go-to brands to get cute and inexpensive cardigans.

Dress: Kohl's
Cardigan: H&M
Shoes: Forever21

In Your Case...

I have decided to go to grad school and this should be it... But something that has always been haunting in my mind is that for most international students, no matter how darn hard you work, you never get a job in this "deamland".

Most of my local friends have been posting status such as "Found a job within a week after graduation. So happy!" I always wonder, what the heck is wrong with all these diligent international kids?? They overcame so many obstacles and tried so hard to be successful but American firms just shut their doors in your face.

Millions of Americans are unemployed. In most of their cases, it is the capability. In your case, it is the freakin' U.S. work visa.

I don't know when this could end, but it is so pathetic for many firms to be so close-minded to get to know these talents.

Enough has been said. Life is tough but you should never give up.

Talk Nerdy to Me

As I mentioned earlier, I wear running shorts/leggings and t-shirts/sweatshirts for 86% of my time. Don't you agree that they are just the most comfy clothes in the world?

Here are some of my favorite nerdy attire:

1. Victoria Secret Love Pink Pullover

5. Havaianas Flip Flops

I have to admit that these are towards the mid or high price range, but you could always find great deals in your local thrift stores or eBay. Also, there are many alternatives that work exactly the same. I know Target carry a ton of burnout T-shirts and running shorts. Old Navy have $2.50 flip flops. I never paid my items in full price!

Wear nerdy with me and talk nerdy to me!

Old Navy is the New Fashion

I started to see a lot of posts about Old Navy about a year ago---great style with only the fraction of J.Crew price. Therefore, I dig into my store near campus and holy camoly, I absolutely fell in love with it!

Here are a couple of gems that I found in Old Navy this week:

TOP: Old Navy $7.99
shorts: J.Crew
Phone case: J.Crew

Go grab some of your favorite pieces and get ready for summer! Plus Old Navy have tons of sales pretty much every day.

Spring to Summer Transition Staple Piece--J.Crew Chino Shorts

It's finally the end of WINTER! Living in the Midwest, you always expect the four seasons and know exactly what to pick out from your closet. However, this past winter/spring has been quite outrageous. Two days ago it was only 50 degrees and right now it is freakin' 87! Anxious about what to wear? Here is the perfect transition piece--J.Crew Chino Shorts.

I love the 4'' ones the best since it is very appropriate to wear either at school or work without looking way too casual.

Pair it with chiffon blouse or shirt and tuck it in. Walah! You've got a perfect summer look!

top: ONLY
shorts: J Crew Chino 4''
Shoes: Forever21
bag: Coach

Although the price is always the pain in the butt, splurging once in a while can be acceptable, right?

I am currently looking for some economic-friendly alternatives, such as Target and Old Navy. Does anyone have some suggestions?

Welcome to My Blog!

Dear all fashionistars,

I am Sophie and I recently graduated from college. I am starting my graduate school in three months, so there is not too much stuff to do during this short break. Since I have been creeping on other people's YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest and multiple other social media for fashion inspirations, I figure this is going to be a great way for me to share some of my ideas and hopefully I could inspire (or at least cheer up) some of you out there:)

I love preppy (not sorority-slutty ones) and elegant look. I collect J.Crew, Banana Republic, Express, Ann Taylor Loft, Tory Burch, Zara, and--- Francesca's!! However, 76% of college time I lived in sweatshirts and leggings...

I run and paint, sometimes. I love all kinds of music except hard rock. My favorite piano piece is Pachelbel Canon in D.

I have some big dreams. I hope that my work and life could have some impacts on others and I could inspire young women to strive and thrive.
